Question

In the BankingInternationalPayee schema, does the BeneficiaryDetails message field contain the payment message or reference entered during payee creation?

Is the legalEntityIdentifier field required to contain the ISO 17442-1:2020 LegalEntity ID, or can it contain the SWIFT BIC value?

Answer

The BeneficiaryDetails message field does contain the payment message or reference entered during payee creation.

The SWIFT BIC value appears in the BankingInternationalPayee schema BeneficiaryBankBIC field. If no ISO 17442 LegalEntity ID is available, the legalEntityIdentifier field can be blank.

Note that these fields are optional and designed to capture a beneficiary that may be used for a variety of international payment flows such as NEFT and RTGS.  It is not expected that every field is captured or returned.
