[ARCHIVE] BankingTransaction reference field

Question

When responding to the Get Transactions For Account API with the BankingTransaction schema, some transactions have no value for the BankingTransaction reference field. This field is mandatory, but the value can be an empty string. 

Where no reference value is available, is it appropriate to pass a transaction code instead, for example 851 Loan Repayment?

Answer

The reference field is mandatory and is required to be supplied by Data Holders. The intent of the field is provided in the description. It is not intended to pass a categorisation code or any other information, unless that information is the reference provided by the originating institution.
