Introduction
In the following, some terms have a specific meaning in the Energy sector context:
- service point: a connection to the Australian national electricity grid.
- downstream: energy consumed at a service point from the grid
- upstream: energy being fed back to the grid
- AEMO: The Australian Energy Market Operator is the designated DH (Data Holder) for several Energy sector datasets.
There are six key CDR data sets specific to the Energy sector:
- National Meter Identifier (NMI) standing data
- Metering or usage data
- Distributed Energy Resources (DER) data
- Generic tariff data
- Accounts data
- Invoice and billing data
NMI standing data
The National Meter Identifier (NMI) is a unique ID given to each service point. It is used for functions such as collecting electricity usage data or for transferring a connection from one region to another.
Data in this dataset includes the NMI itself, and information on the locations, numbers and types of meters associated with the connection, or service point.
The NMI dataset is maintained by AEMO. AEMO is designated as the DH for NMI standing data.
Metering or usage data
This data provides granular information on consumer data usage. This includes downstream and upstream energy information.
Distributed Energy Resources (DER) data
DER data is related to energy management facilities maintained at the home or business. DER data is also referred to as "behind the meter" data, in the sense that it relates to facilities on the side of the meter opposite to the grid. Examples include rooftop solar panels, and battery storage.
The DER register is maintained by AEMO. AEMO is designated as the DH for DER data.
Generic tariff data
This includes data on publicly available energy plans and associated details of current market offerings by energy retailers. Information includes fees and eligibility criteria.
Generic tariff data is maintained in a government register for purposes of price comparison.
Accounts data
This data set provides access to customer accounts and associated energy plans with retailers. Data includes tariffs, fees, features and concessions, which may be specific to a customer and differ from the public available generic tariff data.
Invoice and billing data
This data set provides access to balances, invoices and billing transactions for energy customers.
Data sets for energy and gas
The CDR data sets for energy include consumer and product data relating to the sale or supply of electricity, including where electricity is bundled with gas. Gas data is shared if it is part of a bundled or dual fuel plan.
