Question

We have some customers with a fax number recorded on our systems.

Should we:

• share it against the OTHER enumeration value in the CommonPhoneNumber schema
• not share it
• raise a change request to include a new enumeration value in CommonPhoneNumber schema

We also have some numbers stored as type Direct. Should they be shared as OTHER?

Answer

The intention of the specification was to use the OTHERenumeration value for cases like fax numbers or Direct numbers.

Possibly FAX should be added as an enumeration value, so that, for example, an ADR does not attempt to ring a fax line.  If you think this would be of value then I would recommend raising a change request.
